Microwave Ovens

Microwave ovens cook, thaw and re-heat food quickly. They use high frequency electronic waves, similar to radio waves. The waves penetrate the food, causing the molecules to vibrate; the vibration generates heat, up to a depth of 1½ inches, all round. Some models have a sensor to detect when the food is cooked. Combining convection and microwave cooking delivers microwave speed together with the toasted look of conventional cooking.

Review (rating: 3):
I have been seeing a few of these at my Brother's place. After using a similar item, i liked how tall it was and how well it fit over and around the plate. After spending several years using paper towels and plastic wrap over Chinese food (to keep the rice moist.). I received this item for Christmas after asking for one on the Christmas list. I was a bit disappointed that there was no handle on top of the cover. The only way to life off is through the hole for moisture escape. I have noticed that water likes to cling to it and thus you are putting a finger on the water inside to lift the cover. Also, it appears the cover is made to fit on top of the plate. (There are tabs on the edge of the lower opening to allow for it to rest on the plate.) It seems sturdy but there doesnt appear to be that much of a lip after that t...

Review (rating: 4):
I have used both Panasonic and Sharp microwave in the past. Liked both brand. Read and studied reviews from others and then purchase this Sharp more basic ones. Most time I use the features for reheat or defrost. Both feature works very efficiently. The price is right. I do not like the user interface on this unit. I use `minutes plus' feature a lot. The button is not big enough and sometimes I have to press 2nd time in order to make it to work. So I put a little round sticker to make it easier for my finger. For defrost, it is 2-3 steps process and you have to read the instructions on the unit while the door is open to choose the right setting. Maybe that is why it works efficient. The working efficiency is a 5 star, the look is a 5 star, the price is a 5 star and the user interface i...

Sharp R-230KK 800-Watt 4/5-Cubic-Foot Compact Microwave, Black

Review (rating: 4):
So far, the microwave works beautifully and fits just right on my tiny countertop. Obviously it's a small unit and doesn't have the capacity for large plates or containers. I purchased this particular unit with some 'slight damage' which was miniscule, pretty much brand new. The popcorn function could be extended by about 10 seconds, but at least it doesn't scorch the bag. And it's powerful enough for its small size. Good buy.

I think people are expecting too much from this product. For the price, it does exactly what I need it to do-reheat, defrost, make perfect popcorn. If you want a microwave to do more than the basics, you should expect to pay more.

Presto 05100 Microwave Bacon Cooker

Review (rating: 1):
I used to use one of these. Save your money by microwaving your bacon like this: lay a couple layers of paper towel on a microwavable plate or platter. Lay the bacon on the paper towel, then cover with at least one layer of paper towel to prevent spattering.

The paper towels absorb the grease. If you like, you can even do additional blotting of the bacon afterwards with paper towel. I feel that this approach eliminates as much grease as using this contraption, and it is easier to clean up afterwards.

Review (rating: 4):
I'll agree with most of what the previous reviewers have noted. It's a powerful machine that heats foods very evenly. It looks good, and it's a decent size on the inside without taking up too much counter (or under-cabinet) space. I think the drawbacks are 1) the display (I'm 5'10" and the microwave is on the counter - I can't read it at all without ducking down to counter height) and 2) the time increments -- you can only set times in increments of ten seconds. This is probably fine for many things, but for small quantities of food I think it's important to have more precise control. I just end up watching it like a hawk and stopping it manually.

Review (rating: 1):
We bought a Panasonic microwave 1250W with inverter feature. After 4 years, the magnetron tube died. The tube was under warranty, but Panasonic said they would charge for labor. Guess what the game is? dissuade the customer from proceeding further because labor is not covered. I complained to the NJ Attorney General's office but the Panasonic head office would not budge. I paid up to get it repaired. Now 6 months later, the turntable rotates whenever the door is opened, even when the microwave is not started. I called Sullivan at Panasonic but nobody returned my call.
Unfortunately, only Sharp makes microwaves other than Panasonic. Be prepared for very poor customer service.

Our 10+ year old Sharp bit the dust so I looked at the Panasonic Inverter Microwave. Paid a little more than the other basic models (0-5) but after using it for a few weeks, well worth it.

The sensor button is great. You don't have to guess, is it 35 seconds or 54 seconds? Food comes out hot every time! Pay attention to the popcorn button. You have to get the size of the bag correct or results will suffer.

Turbo defrost is another great function. 1300 watts will defrost most frozen meals very quickly. Interior is very large, but the entire unit is about the same size as the old Sharp and the interior is much bigger

The display is a yellow color and is difficult to see from angles other than directly in front.

The inverter is a way for microwaves to be generated at different levels. My old microwave would cy...
