Steam all kinds of food: vegetables, rice, pasta, fish, seafood, meat. An electronic steamer makes this easy. Most of them can start cooking immediately, or delay cooking up to twelve hours. An electronic steamer can turn off automatically when cooking is finished, or keep food warm while the rest of the meal is being prepared.
Even if you use your normal pan, steaming is still the healthiest cooking method. The advantages of steaming via the microwave are still on debate, though.
Oster 4716 Egg Cooker
Amazon Price: .14 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 4): This egg cooker is fast.
Other egg cookers have a handle on the rack to remove all boiled eggs by lifting the tray, with this cooker each individual egg must be removed using a towel so as not to burn your hands.
Further, why not a 'sound-tone' when the eggs are finished cooking? Okay it turns off, but the eggs keep cooking in their own heat while you run around doing other things.
The designers obviously don't like boiled eggs and never use the product.
Black & Decker EHC650 3-Cup 2-Speed Food Chopper
Amazon Price: .49 Used Price: .99 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): Wish I had purchased this item years ago. My arthritis is getting worse and since it was recommended in Consumer Reports Magazine decided to give it a try. I found it works wonderfully for onions, bell peppers and garlic, I am forever chopping very small amounts can't believe the time I save and it is too EASY to use. Clean-up is very simple. I would recommend this item VERY highly and plan to purchase another for a gift.
Panasonic SR-G06FG 3.3-Cup Rice Cooker/Steamer
Amazon Price: .99 Used Price: .99 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 Review (rating: 5): This simple, compact cooker makes great rice. But the instructions are unclear, incomplete, and filled with typos. Here's what they should say.
1. Using the included measuring scoop, measure 1, 2, or 3 level scoops of uncooked rice into a strainer. (The scoop is 3/4 cup. If you've lost it, use a measuring cup to measure 3/4, 1-1/2, or 2-1/4 cups of rice.)
2. Rinse the rice in the strainer under cold running water.
3. Dump the rinsed rice into the cooker pan.
4. Add cold water to the pan so it just reaches the 1, 2, or 3 cup mark on the side of the pan. For example, if you used 2 scoops of rice, add water to the 2 cup mark.
5. Place the pan in the cooker, put the lid on, plug in the cooker, and press down the switch to turn it on.
6. After the Cook light goes out, wait 15 minutes for the rice to ...
Black & Decker HS2776 Double-Decker Flavor-Scenter Steamer Deluxe Food Steamer
Amazon Price: .74 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): ..it came with only perfunctory cooking instruction. So I had to google myself into a stupor to find recipes. One reviewer here supplied a good link for using the steamer.Thank you!
I have used it for a few days now,and am completely satisfied.I have never used a steamer before,so was a little apprehensive. But everything turned out perfectly.
I cooked three boneless chicken tenders, thick ones, tonight. They came out so juicy,I was shocked. Then I cooked some broccoli and that was wonderful.I am presently cooking some rice, and I am sure it will turn out well.
The only problem is that I was hoping for some actual recipes in a little cookbook, but there wasn't one.But the 'net helped, and I am enjoying experimenting with new foods.
I really, really love this steam cooker. The price was great, and the quality is above par.
Black & Decker Divided Food Steamer
Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): Love my steamer! Of course it works great for veggies and rice but hard boiled eggs turn out perfect! A breeze to peel and cooked just right. Couldn't be easier!

Joyce Chen 10-Inch Bamboo Steamer Set
Amazon Price: .99 Used Price: .29 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): The Joyce Chen 10-Inch Bamboo Steamer Set is all that it is touted to be. When I buy a Joyce Chen product, I expect to buy quality, and Chen's streak continues with this product. It is well made, simple to use, and offers a quick and healthy way to cook food. Also, the price was right. My only critique, and it has nothing to do with the product, it has more to do with the marketing department at Joyce Chen. Being a first time steamer user, I would have liked, and found helpful a booklet or leaflet with a couple of basic steamer recipes, and maybe even a chart with suggested steaming times for certain meats, fish, and vegetables. Instead, I had to travel the internet to find this information. Just an idea Joyce.
Oster 5711 Mechanical Food Steamer
Amazon Price: .92 Used Price: .00 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 5): I bought this steamer to replace a different brand steamer that I returned due to poor design.
This one has worked like a charm.
I like the roomy 2 tiers that fit together well and the built-in egg holders. I also found I prefer the manual turn dial to the electronic ones that are available on other types of steamers -- I have not had any issues with it malfunctioning.
The steaming begins almost immediately and the unit does not need to be taken apart to add water.
Rival RC61 3-Cup Rice Cooker, Red
Average Customer Rating: 3.5 Review (rating: 2): I violated one of my longterm rules and paid the penalty: I bought this rice cooker on a whim before reading online reviews. Luckily, I was able to return it. Why did I return it? Because if you use this cooker to its full capacity, you will have quite a mess on your hands.
I made 3 cups of brown rice. This took about 50 minutes (which is to be expected with brown rice). Unfortunately, around the 30 minute mark, water started boiling out of the hole in the top lid and running down the side. I fiddled with the lid to let out some steam and prevent it from boiling over further. But who wants a rice cooker that you need to baby sit?
In general, if I return a product, I only give it 1 star. I am giving the Rival Rice Cooker 2 stars because, despite the mess, the rice did seem to turn out fine. I suppose if you are cooking less th...
