I don't like to fail so may be that's why I am challenging myself to make yogurt. I thought this will do the magic, you have to do everything manually before you put the mixture in this machine, how on earth I am going to bring the milk to 100f? put your finger and count to 10 didn't work, how would I know the starter still working. all this machine does is keep it warm, it does not tell when it is ready, doesn't have a thermostat, the cover does not close well, the price is cheap but why buy that if you have to do all the guessing work and then just keep it warm which you can do naturally on a hot day or after you use your oven or with thick covering to the mix, I just think it is a stupid machine, does nothing....

Product works as advertised; however, preparing the ingredients is quite time consuming. Unit must sit in freezer overnight before using, and the ingredients must be chilled at least eight hours before making the ice cream.

Review (rating: 5):
This ice cream maker is so fast and easy to use. You don't have to mess with ice and rock salt but you still get the old fashioned taste. A recipe book is included and the recipes are very good. We have been experimenting with low fat versions using less cream and the result is very good. Buy the extra bowl and keep two in the freezer. That way you can make two different flavors or be prepared for more guests.

Makes cold, sweet milk and a big mess. Tried several times. Froze bowl; chilled ingredients; checked periodically; and NEVER got anything like soft-serve ice cream. Would take it to Goodwill but I don't want anyone else to waste their money on this plus all the ingredients and only be disappointed!

Review (rating: 5):
Acidophilus makes yogurt a bit more tart than starter without it. This starter makes a nice creamy yogurt that's not too tart. It's the only starter I use now. I make yogurt several times a week.

Rival F69206-X 6-Quart Electric White Mountain Ice Cream Freezer

Review (rating: 1):
I will be returning this ice cream freezer within the week. I have made ice cream with it 3 times and yesterday when I tried to make it again the motor was making a terrible noise. I had previously returned another one of this same freezer due to problems with the motor. I do not recommend it. My first White Mountain lasted for years but I do not think it was made by Rival. I've had nothing but problems with the Rival White Mountain electric ice cream freezer.

Review (rating: 3):
This machine gave me fits until I figured out how to jerry-rig it. In order to work correctly, the metal shaft on the dasher has to fit snugly into the slot in the motor. If it doesn't, there is no churning action since everything moves together, instead of the canister moving and the dasher remaining stationary. I put a small rounded piece of plastic (the stopper from a half-gallon of orange juice) between the canister and the bucket, and then a Chapstick cap on the end of the dasher where it rests on the bottom of the canister. This was enough to push the dasher up into the slot so that the machine churns the ice cream once everything is snapped in place. Other than this annoyance, the machine works very well and is cheap. It makes a huge batch of ice cream. A bag of ice and a box of salt, and you're good to go.
