Was so excited to receive my ice cream maker. Froze the bowl for 2 1/2 days and chilled the custard overnight. The mixture never thickened up or froze at all. What a waste of money and cream.

I'm happy with the salton 1-Qt yogurt maker. I use non-fat milk and mix in some non-fat dried milk and the yogurt is thick and nice. I recommend a small thermometer for checking the milk temperature before you add the starter.

I own both the KitchenAid ice cream attachment and the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker, two devices that work on the same principle of using a liquid filled freezer bowl and a machine-operated paddle to make homemade ice cream. I decided to compare the two using the same recipe for French vanilla ice cream (from the KitchenAid cookbook) to see which performed better.
The KitchenAid: The bowl has a greater capacity (about 5 cups of mix) than the Cuisinart. Although it also takes up more room in the freezer, I liked this aspect. After all, if I'm going to make homemade ice cream, I want enough to make the effort worthwhile. I was so excited about trying this ice cream maker as I had read the reviews. I followed the directions exactly and when I went to freeze the mixture it never even started to thicken. I even tried running it a little longer. I used the recipe that came with the machine.

I read the reviews, and yes, you get what you pay for. This is a great price, but you must make your own recipes. The simple chocolate recipe is horrible, waaay to much cream (causes tummy ache). So if you have the time to 'experiment' in the kitchen, it is a cool product. My advice: freeze the bowl like everyone says but also, you MUST refrigerate your mix as well before you pour it in. Also, there is only a short window from when your ice cream dispenses properly 30-40mins, then it's hard, then it starts to melt! Overall, I'd rather pay Mr. Softee file=bazaar/showicecreamaker.php.

Acidophilus makes yogurt a bit more tart than starter without it. This starter makes a nice creamy yogurt that's not too tart. It's the only starter I use now. I make yogurt several times a week.

Love it! Bought it to replace the one I've had for the last 23 years. Great bang for the buck! Can't go wrong with this one. Makes great ice cream! Not real loud. Easy to use. What can I say...? Glad I bought it. And, as usual, it arrived sooner than they suggested it would. Hard to beat Amazon's service whether it is coming from them or a second party. Good instructions too. If you've never made home made ice cream, they take you through it step by step. When the motor quit's turning... you're done! Good wide base for stability in transport.I have to say the shipping was a little more than expected. But, you really can't beat it for the price.

This is incredible. Have grown up around family who has always made home-made icecream. My grandfather had a White Mountain I.C.Maker that made the best icecream. When he passed away, no one knew what happened to his icecream maker. My mother mentioned it was a White Mt. I looked locally, couldn't find it and finally decided to purchase another brand at a local store. It was terrible. Plastic parts inside and tub, icecream was course. Motor was so weak. I returned it and found out that if I could find a White Mt. maker that would be my answer to the ultimate icecream. It is a real wood tub, stainless steel can, steel and wood whipper, stainless steel lid and cork. Freezes my mixture in about 25 minutes and larger than most - 6 quarts. This Ice Shaver is the best thing thats ever happened to us when it comes to making Margaritas. This thing grinds ice for the rim of the cup very easy, the only work you have to do is push down. This Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker is wonderful. I received it for a gift and love it. One thing we've found is to get truly creamy ice cream a cooked custard base is the best. While the compressor is a bit loud, it's worth every decibel!
