Experience, the mother-lode for this gal!
First, be sure to plan your recipe and steps at least two days ahead of your first attempt to make ice cream using this maker. You can also practice putting on the plastic adapter (the directions are useless). Just know that you'll have to push upwards to get it attached to the spring.
Leave the mixer AND the paddle AND the eventual container for your concoction in the FREEZER a full 24 (or more) hours.
Next, be sure to COOL your custard mixes a minimum of two hours in the refrigerator before adding to the maker.
Finally, be sure to use a soft (plastic, etc.) SPATULA to scrape the mixer sides. Save that wooden or metal spoon for scraping the paddle. You'll enjoy the like-new appearance if you follow this step.

We had seen a simular product on The Food Network and had become interested in owning one. We read other reviews on the Cuisinart and were a little worried that it would not work as it was advertized. We went ahead and ordered the machine and followed the inclosed instructions. It not only worked great, but the grandchildren were amazed to be able to watch it work. We used one of the inclosed recipes and the icecream was delicious. We are looking forward to trying some of the other variations in the booklet and also some of the old family recipes that we have used for years with the old "ice and salt" icecream makers. Over-all a great product!!

I really like this starter. I tried a different brand and it turned my yogurt sour and it was very soft. This one produces a good flavour in cow and goat milk. Although, my goat milk yogurt never sets up, it has an outstanding flavour- my daughter loves it this way. She adds about 1 Tbs. of Honey and some thawed raspberries and it is like a little smoothie.

I'm very happy with this purchase. The molds are smaller than the average molds and that's what I like about it. Being smaller, they freeze very quickly and more important, you can easily eat all of the pop before it turns into a melty mess. The silicon makes the pop very easy to unmold and the finished pop is very pretty to look at.

I bought this unit after giving up on the crummy frozen-bowl type of maker (see my other reviews). I looked around quite a bit and settled on the Hamilton Beach because of the reviews and the super-cheap price. I can't believe what some of the hand-cranked machines go for! As a kid, we had the kind with the wooden tubs, so I knew how much they leaked. Anyway, this unit has been everything I'd hoped for. Yes, it is lightly built and could be damaged easily. I'm pretty easy on equipment, so that shouldn't be a problem. It works like it should. At least I knew what to expect from my previous machine. I somehow missed the detailed description, so was pleased to find that it comes with 50 popsicle sticks.
Funny, the box shows in 3 places that it makes 8 - 2.5 oz. pops and it actually makes 10.
Also, the instructions recommend soaking the sticks in hot water in advance for better results.
All in all, seems like a good product.

Make sure your freezer is zero degrees and follow the instructions, it is that easy. Takes a little longer than 20 minutes to get the consistancy I like 30 minutes is more like it. Great soft serve, will stand right up in a cone no problem.
