Whiskey Nut Braised Beef

Description Whiskey and nuts give an entirely different flavor and texture to this common braised beef, making it apt to dazzle the table for any celebration.

  • 3 Tbs olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
  • 4-5 lbs cubed beef
  • 1/2 cup whiskey
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp horseradish sauce
  • 1 lb shallots or small onions, peeled
  • 2 Tbs cornstarch
  • 3 Tbs toasted chopped walnuts
  • salt
  • pepper
Methods/steps
  1. heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Brown the beef cubes. Add crushed garlic and cook 2-3 minutes more.
  2. Pour in whiskey and broth, incorporate horseradish cream. When it boils, lower the heat, cover and simmer for about 1 hour, until the meat is tender.
  3. Add shallots and simmer for 30-40 minutes more.
  4. Mix cornstarch with 2 Tbs water and incorporate this to the pan. Let it simmer for 4-5 minutes more, or until the sauce thickens.
  5. Add the nuts just before serving.
