Prepare your own apple and pear steamer

Another fruit dessert we found in a microwaveable steamer pouch is a mixture of apple and pear with plump raisins in a mulled wine syrup.

Ingredients

1 apple, washed, cored and diced
1 pear, washed, cored and diced
2 Tbs raisins
4 Tbs mulled wine syrup

  1. Place all the ingredients in a container suitable for the microwave.
  2. Cover with the lid or cling film -pierced 2 o 3 times to let the steam escape.
  3. Microwave at 850w for 2 minutes. Let it stand for 1 minute and microwave again at 850w for a further 1 minute.

750w => Cook for 2 minutes. Stand for 1 minute. Cook for 1 minute 20 seconds.
650w => Cook for 2 minutes. Stand for 1 minute. Cook for 1 minute 30 seconds.

Mulled wine syrup

1/2 cup water
2 Tbs sugar
2 Tbs red wine
1 Tbs lemon juice
1 Tbs orange juice
mulling spices (pinch of cinnamon, pinch of ginger, pinch of nutmeg, 1 clove)

  1. Place all ingredients in a pan.
  2. Bring to the boil and simmer very gently for 3-5 minutes.

Tip - to make mulled wine syrup on the quick, mix 2 Tbs glucose syrup or corn syrup, 1 Tbs lemon juice, 1 Tbs orange juice 2 Tbs red wine. Add a pinch of ground mulling spices (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg).
